# Hooks

## Hooks

Hooks are the core piece of Fishing tackle. Equip one to your rod in **Rod Setup**. Cast your rod, then use **Crouch + Right-Click** to unlock custom fishing and its effects.

{% hint style="info" %}
Your first Hook, the **Rusty Hook**, is a chance drop from vanilla fishing. See [How to Get Fishing](/features/fishing/how-to-get-fishing.md).
{% endhint %}

***

### Durability

Most Hooks have limited **Durability**. They eventually break with use. Equip a replacement when this happens.

The **Octillery** line is **Unbreakable**. These Hooks never wear out.

***

### What a Hook Can Give You

Every cast with a Hook uses that Hook's reward pool. It can include:

* **Fish** — a Journal species, weighed and priced per kg.
* **Pokémon** — a wild encounter that you need to battle.
* **Items** — bonus tackle, treasure, or other rewards.

Higher-tier Hooks lean toward rarer outcomes. Legendary-tier Hooks focus on Legendary Pokémon encounters. Basic Hooks mostly return common Fish.

{% hint style="warning" %}
The **Octillery** line cannot be bought from the Shop. Fish them up as rewards, most reliably through the **Magnet Hook**.
{% endhint %}

Prices and stock reflect availability while the Tackle Shop rotation includes that Hook. See [Shop](/features/fishing/shop.md) for rotation details.

### FAQ

<details>

<summary>What happens when my Hook breaks?</summary>

A broken Hook is removed from your rod. Equip another one through Rod Setup, or buy or find a replacement.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do I need a Hook to fish at all?</summary>

Equip at least a Rusty Hook to fish the custom way and access Fish, Pokémon, and item rewards. Without one, you are limited to vanilla fishing.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Which Hook should I use to target Legendary Pokémon?</summary>

Legendary-tier Hooks, from Lesser Legendary to Master Legendary, focus on Legendary Pokémon encounters. They require higher Fishing Levels.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://wiki.cobblemonislands.com/features/fishing/hooks.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
