# Dex Rewards

Earn rewards, boosts, and prestige by completing your Regular and Shiny Pokédexes.

Dex Rewards pays you for filling out your Pokédex. Every new species you catch is added to one or more of your dexes, and as your completion climbs you unlock reward stages: crate keys, Master Balls, boosters, chat tags, titles, Expedition tickets and more.

* **Command:** `/dex`
* **Shortcut:** `/pokemon` opens your Regular dex's caught Pokémon list

***

### The Dexes

There are two dexes. A single Pokémon can count towards both at once: a shiny counts towards your Regular **and** Shiny dexes.

| Dex         | What counts                     | Progress measured by  | Prestige? |
| ----------- | ------------------------------- | --------------------- | --------- |
| **Regular** | Every unique species you obtain | % of the full Pokédex | Yes |
| **Shiny** | Unique shiny species you obtain | % of the full Pokédex | Yes |

{% hint style="info" %}
Progress counts **unique species**. Catching a second Pikachu won't raise your Regular dex, but a **shiny** Pikachu still counts towards your Shiny dex if you haven't logged one yet.
{% endhint %}

***

### How Pokémon Get Added

Three things add a Pokémon to your dex:

1. **Catching it.** Throw a ball and catch it yourself.
2. **Evolving it.** When one of your Pokémon evolves, the evolved species is added too.
3. **Touch trading.** Receiving a Pokémon any other way, such as a trade, the GTS or Wonder Trade. See [Touch Trading](#touch-trading) below.

When a Pokémon is added, you get a chat message telling you which dex it went into:

> **Dex Rewards** » Pikachu has been added to your Regular dex!

#### Touch Trading

Touch trading covers **any** way a Pokémon comes into your hands other than catching it yourself: trading with another player, the GTS, Wonder Trade and so on. A Pokémon you receive this way is added to your dex, so you and your friends can help each other fill gaps.

It's limited, though:

* **Each Pokémon can only be used for dex completion 3 times in total**, across every player who owns it. Once it's been used 3 times, it won't count for anyone else, no matter how it reaches them.
* **You can only use a given Pokémon once.** Trading it away and getting it back later won't count it again for you.

If you receive a Pokémon that's already been used up, it won't be added to your dex. Before you trade for a Pokémon to fill your dex, check with the other player that it hasn't already been passed around.

{% hint style="warning" %}
A Pokémon from the GTS or Wonder Trade may already have been used by other players, so it might not count for you.
{% endhint %}

#### Each Pokémon counts once

Each individual Pokémon can only be used for your dex once. If you've already used a Pokémon, including in an earlier prestige, you'll see:

> **Dex Rewards** » You have already used this Pokémon for dex completion!

To make progress after a prestige, you need fresh Pokémon, either caught yourself or touch traded.

### Using the Menu

Type `/dex` to open the **Dex Rewards** menu. Each dex shows your current prestige, how many species you've caught out of the total, and a progress bar with your completion percentage.

1. **Pick a dex:** Regular or Shiny.
2. **Pick a prestige.** Prestiges you haven't reached yet show as `???`. From here you can also click **View Caught Pokemon** to see every species, marked **Caught** or **Not Caught**.
3. **Claim your stages.** Each reward stage shows one of three states:

| Status             | Meaning                                                             |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **In progress** | Shows how many you've caught, how many you need, and a progress bar |
| **Click to claim** | You've hit the target. Click to collect your rewards |
| **Claimed**        | You've already collected this stage                                 |

{% hint style="success" %}
Rewards are **not** given automatically. You have to click to claim them. If you have unclaimed rewards waiting, you'll get a reminder in chat every **5 minutes** until you claim them.
{% endhint %}

***

### Prestige

The Regular and Shiny dexes can each be **prestiged**. Once you've claimed every stage in your current prestige, you can prestige that dex:

* Your caught list for **that dex only** resets to 0%, and the reward ladder starts again at the next prestige.
* Your other dexes aren't affected. Prestiging your Shiny dex leaves your Regular dex alone.
* Pokémon you used in an earlier prestige can't be used again, so you'll need fresh ones.
* The whole server gets an announcement when you prestige.

### FAQ

<details>

<summary>I traded for a Pokémon, but it wasn't added to my dex. Why?</summary>

Pokémon you receive through touch trading (trades, the GTS, Wonder Trade and so on) only count if that Pokémon hasn't already been used for dex completion 3 times, and hasn't been used by you before.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does a shiny catch count for my Regular dex too?</summary>

Yes. A shiny counts for both your Regular and Shiny dexes.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I caught the same species again, but my progress didn't go up.</summary>

Dex progress counts **unique species**, so duplicates don't add anything. A duplicate can still count towards your Shiny dex if it's shiny and you haven't logged that species there yet.

</details>

<details>

<summary>It says "You need X Pokemon in your dex to claim that."</summary>

You haven't reached that stage's target yet. Check the stage's **In progress** line to see how many more species you need.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why is a Pokémon I already have saying it's been used for dex completion?</summary>

Each individual Pokémon can only count for you once. If you used it before, including in a previous prestige, it can't be used again. Catch or trade for a fresh one instead.

</details>

<details>

<summary>If I prestige, do I lose my rewards?</summary>

No. Rewards you've claimed stay yours. Prestiging only resets your caught list for **that one dex** so you can climb the next prestige's ladder.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do I have to claim every stage before I can prestige?</summary>

Yes. Every stage in your current prestige has to be claimed before you can prestige that dex.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://wiki.cobblemonislands.com/features/dex-rewards.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
