# Cobblemon 1.8 Update: Alpha Pokemon, New Species and Every Change
Everything in the Cobblemon 1.8 update for Minecraft: Alpha Pokemon, 49 new structures, new species and rideable Pokemon, TMs, and the advancement reset. Play it now on Cobblemon Islands.
The Cobblemon 1.8 update for Minecraft is here, and it is a big one: a brand new way to encounter tougher wild Pokemon, a wave of new species and rideable Pokemon, 49 new structures to explore, and a long list of quality-of-life improvements.
Cobblemon 1.8, officially the **Make Your Move update**, released on **5 September 2026** for Fabric and NeoForge.

### What is in the Cobblemon 1.8 update?

### Alpha Pokemon in Cobblemon 1.8
The headline feature of 1.8 is the arrival of **Alpha Pokemon**, supercharged wild encounters that hit noticeably harder than their normal counterparts and are built to be a real test for your team. They are brand new to the mod, not a change to an existing mechanic.
* **Bigger, stronger and more aggressive.** Alphas are visibly larger than a normal Pokemon of the same species, and they hit harder in battle too.
* **They spawn and lead as part of a herd.** Alphas always spawn as part of a herd, and lead it when present.
* **Battle-ready movesets.** Every Alpha spawns already knowing a TM move, and it adapts to be stronger than your own party, so expect a real fight.
* **They will not back down.** Alpha Pokemon always defend themselves if a player attacks them.
* **Hopo Berries attract them.** Hopo Berries gained an Alpha attraction bait effect in 1.8, which is the most reliable way to bring one to you rather than hunting for one.
* Several other bait items got new effects in 1.8 too: Sweet and Glow Berries, Golden and Enchanted Golden Apples, Custap, Eggant and Micle Berries, and Sweet Hearts.
* **Unmistakable presence.** Alphas get their own pitch-down, reverb-heavy cries, a unique bait effect, distinct eye rendering (an eye overlay, bloom, eye trail, and particles), and new Wild Might particle effects when they get worked up in battle.
* **Scaled to your team.** Alphas adapt to be stronger than your current party rather than scaling only against their own level, so they stay a real test whether you find one early or late into your save.
### New structures in Cobblemon 1.8
1.8 adds **49 new habitat structures**. Rarer Pokemon show up in these habitats, and some show different Pokemon depending on the day.
* **10 new ruin structures.** On top of that, every ruin structure's gilded chest, new ones and existing ones alike, now guarantees a TM not learnable naturally by any Pokemon, and each ruin has its own specific TM, so hunting ruins is now a real way to round out your move dex.
* The Pokedex also gained a **Move Dex** tab in 1.8. It shows what moves a Pokemon can learn and which Pokemon can learn a given move, so you can plan your hunt around what you actually find.
Every ruin structure now generates with a gimmighoul or gilded chest, even the older ruin types that previously had none.
* A brand new **magma shipwreck cove**, plus slightly more frequent shipwreck cove spawns overall.
* Shipwreck coves are tougher now too: while a cove is in its ominous state, enemies spawn geared in enchanted iron or diamond equipment with the automaton trim, and every cove's treasure chest guarantees one of the elemental Hyper Beam TMs. Magma coves get Blast Burn, lush coves get Frenzy Plant, and submerged coves get Hydro Cannon.
The lush shipwreck cove also swapped its phantom spawner for breezes.
Maps from abandoned fishing boats now skip chunks you have already explored, so they lead you to new shipwreck coves faster.
* Fossil structures, plus the rooted arch and crumbling arch ruins specifically, now generate more naturally in the terrain.
### New Pokemon in Cobblemon 1.8
**37 new species** join the Pokedex, spanning Generations 3 through 9, plus **4 new regional forms**, for 41 additions in total.
**New species:** Wurmple line, Cherubi and Cherrim, Stunky and Skuntank, Skitty and Delcatty, Seviper, Zangoose, Audino, Pawniard and Bisharp, Pancham and Pangoro, Rockruff and Lycanroc, Rolycoly line, Runerigus, Snom and Frosmoth, Indeedee, Applin, Flapple and Appletun, Nymble and Lokix, Kingambit, Dipplin and Hydrapple, Duraludon, Archaludon, and more.
**New regional forms:** Alolan Sandshrew and Sandslash, Galarian Yamask, Hisuian Avalugg.

#### New rideable Pokemon in 1.8

#### How to get Porygon in Cobblemon 1.8
Porygon is obtainable at last. Insert an **Upgrade** or a **Dubious Disc** into a **data monitor** to get one. Both items already existed for evolving the line; 1.8 makes the data monitor the way to start it.
The data monitor can also accept other disks, like TMs and music discs, to change what shows on its screen, not just Upgrade and Dubious Disc.
#### Every Pokemon is now slightly rescaled
1.8 gives every species **intrinsic scaling**, so any individual can be up to 5% smaller or 5% larger than the species standard. Baby Pokemon scale separately: 10% smaller at level 1, growing to normal size by level 10. If a Pokemon looks off compared to one you caught before the update, this is why, and it is not an Alpha.

**New move animations (24 moves):** Blizzard, Disarming Voice, Draco Meteor, Dragon Breath, Dragon Rage, Drain Punch, Fairy Wind, Fire Fang, Gust, Horn Drill, Hydro Pump, Ice Fang, Leafage, Leaf Storm, Light Screen, Night Shade, Play Rough, Pyro Ball, Reflect, Rock Slide, Sonic Boom, Sucker Punch, Supersonic, Thunder Fang.
**Tweaked or fixed move animations (32 moves):** Confusion, Dragon Claw, Eruption, Fire Punch, Flame Burst, Flame Charge, Flamethrower, Frost Breath, Hypnosis, Ice Punch, Icy Wind, Mud Sport, Poison Fang, Protect, Psychic, Quick Attack, Rage Powder, Razor Leaf, Sand Attack, Scratch, Shadow Claw, Sing, Spore, String Shot, Tackle, Tail Whip, Thunder, Thunder Punch, Thunder Wave, Water Gun, Water Pulse, Water Sport.
### TMs and quality of life
TMs did not exist in Cobblemon before this update. 1.8 adds the whole TM system from scratch, along with every block and item needed to make one.

* TMs are getting fully built out this update: Type Gem blocks, the TM Machine, and new configs a server can enable for infinite-use or fully available TMs.
* **How to make a TM.** The TM Machine crafts TMs from elemental type gems, but each TM's recipe stays locked until you own a Pokemon that already knows that move.
* **Growing your own gems.** Type Gem crystal clusters and deepslate core blocks let you grow elemental type gems yourself instead of only finding them.
* New advancements track TM progress, including per-TM, all-TMs, and TM-count milestones.
* 1.8 adds 7 new advancements in total, on top of the TM and Alpha tracking above.
* A new advancement tracks capturing Alpha Pokemon, counted over time rather than a one-off.
* The Party Overlay now shows the actual amount of EXP gained.
* A new toast reminds you that you can hold R and scroll to move through your party instead of using the arrow keys.
* The **Habitat Block** is a new spawner block for servers and adventure maps that controls what spawns in an area.
* **Conditional riding seats** can be gated by Molang, so a seat can require an Alpha to be rideable.
* A **/givetm** command, and a config option to disable Pokemon spawning per world.
* The **Starter Selection menu** also got a full visual overhaul and looks a lot better than before.
* The **Disk Rack** stores music discs and doubles as an audio sequencer for note blocks.
* Pokemon cries now play when you click them in the summary screen.
### New crafting recipes and drops in 1.8
A handful of items also got new ways to obtain them in 1.8, on top of the TM system above.
* The Pokedex list also has a new filter dropdown at the bottom. In game it offers All, Owned, Seen, Unregistered, Rideable, and Undiscovered TM Move, so you can pull up exactly which Pokemon you can still ride or still need a TM for.
* Wild Pokemon now reliably spawn with at least one offensive move, if their level allows one.
* Hover mounts no longer lose block breaking speed, so they are actually good for digging now too.
* Golden Apples can now be crafted using Applin Apples instead of only found or bought.
* You can now craft a Pokedex using Prismarine Crystals or Amethyst Shards.
* Sharp Beak can now be crafted from bones and Flying type gems.
* Metal Alloy can now be crafted from iron and Thunder Stones.
* Pastured Pokemon now wander within 32 blocks by default, so they stay closer to home.
* **New brushing drops.** Brushing can now give you Pink Wool from Wigglytuff, White Wool from Swablu and Altaria, Phantom Membrane from the Dreepy line, and Shed Shell from several other species.
* **New evolution drops.** Evolving Squirtle, Turtwig, Tirtouga, or Chewtle into any of their evolutions now drops a Turtle Scute, and evolving dozens of other species, including Metapod, Dratini, and Treecko, can drop a Shed Shell.
* Saccharine Leaves now drop Tart, Sweet, or Syrupy Apples depending on their honey coating stage, instead of plain Apples.
### Bug fixes in 1.8
There is a big batch of bug fixes in this update too, including Full Heal now correctly curing status conditions in battle, traded Pokemon retaining their original friendship level when traded back to their original trainer, submarine handling and camera fixes, fossil and berry tree crash fixes, and general Pokedex "seen" tracking fixes for fished and surprised encounters.
* **Ability Capsules can now be brewed** from Medicinal Brew and Dragon Breath, rather than only found, and using one now returns an Empty Bottle.
* **Type Gems now consume properly.** Before 1.8 they were not always used up in battle. Now they are consumed correctly every time.
* **A fishing exploit is closed.** You used to be able to remove your bait or drop a baited Poke Rod to avoid using it up. Now the bobber just disappears if you try that, so bait is consumed as intended.
* **Gilded chests are harder to reach now.** They were more accessible than intended before 1.8, so this update tightens that up, even though every ruin's chest still guarantees a TM.
* **Rare Pokemon do not clump up as much.** They were far too likely to spawn multiple times in a single spawn cycle before 1.8; that has been fixed.
* **Pastured Pokemon stay put.** They used to occasionally despawn and run away; that is fixed now, on top of the smaller default wander radius.
* **Regional Foods changed.** Right clicking a Regional Food now eats it by default. Shift click it instead if you want to use it to heal your Pokemon.
* **Female Meowstic and Oinkologne can now appear.** Random gender selection for Pokemon with strict gender divides never picked female before 1.8; it can now.
* Sliggoo and Hisuian Sliggoo can no longer evolve in the Nether or the End, since it never actually rains there.
* **Rare forms can actually appear now.** Three Segment Dudunsparce and the three member Maushold family had their 1 in 100 chance of showing up fixed; it was not working before 1.8.
### Does Cobblemon 1.8 reset your advancements?
Yes, and this catches people out. 1.8 refactors advancements to simplify a cluttered list, and as a result **previously earned advancements reset**, except for the root starter-selection advancement. This is a one-time cost of the update itself, not something specific to Cobblemon Islands or any other server.

**What are Alpha Pokemon in Cobblemon?** Alpha Pokemon are new to 1.8. They are bigger, stronger and more aggressive versions of wild Pokemon that lead herds, spawn already knowing a TM move, adapt to be stronger than your own party, and have their own cries and visual effects.
**How many new structures does Cobblemon 1.8 add?** 49 habitat structures. Rarer Pokemon appear in these habitats, and some show different Pokemon on different days.
**When did Cobblemon 1.8 come out?** 5 September 2026, for both Fabric and NeoForge. Its official name is the Make Your Move update.
**How many new Pokemon does Cobblemon 1.8 add?** 37 new species across Generations 3 to 9, plus 4 new regional forms, so 41 additions in total.

**Where do I get the guaranteed TMs?** Every ruin's gilded chest guarantees a TM that no Pokemon learns naturally, and each ruin type has its own specific TM. Shipwreck cove treasure chests guarantee an elemental Hyper Beam TM: Blast Burn in magma coves, Frenzy Plant in lush coves, and Hydro Cannon in submerged coves.

#### New rideable Pokemon in 1.8
Crobat, Skarmory, Milotic, Archeops, Goodra (plus its Hisuian form), Drampa, Duraludon, Archaludon, and Pidgeot.
#### How to get Porygon in Cobblemon 1.8
Porygon is obtainable at last. Insert an **Upgrade** or a **Dubious Disc** into a **data monitor** to get one. Both items already existed for evolving the line; 1.8 makes the data monitor the way to start it.
The data monitor can also accept other disks, like TMs and music discs, to change what shows on its screen, not just Upgrade and Dubious Disc.
#### Every Pokemon is now slightly rescaled
1.8 gives every species **intrinsic scaling**, so any individual can be up to 5% smaller or 5% larger than the species standard. Baby Pokemon scale separately: 10% smaller at level 1, growing to normal size by level 10. If a Pokemon looks off compared to one you caught before the update, this is why, and it is not an Alpha.

### TMs and quality of life
TMs did not exist in Cobblemon before this update. 1.8 adds the whole TM system from scratch, along with every block and item needed to make one.

* TMs are getting fully built out this update: Type Gem blocks, the TM Machine, and new configs a server can enable for infinite-use or fully available TMs.
* **How to make a TM.** The TM Machine crafts TMs from elemental type gems, but each TM's recipe stays locked until you own a Pokemon that already knows that move.
* **Growing your own gems.** Type Gem crystal clusters and deepslate core blocks let you grow elemental type gems yourself instead of only finding them.
* New advancements track TM progress, including per-TM, all-TMs, and TM-count milestones.
* 1.8 adds 7 new advancements in total, on top of the TM and Alpha tracking above.
* A new advancement tracks capturing Alpha Pokemon, counted over time rather than a one-off.
* The Party Overlay now shows the actual amount of EXP gained.
* A new toast reminds you that you can hold R and scroll to move through your party instead of using the arrow keys.
* The **Habitat Block** is a new spawner block for servers and adventure maps that controls what spawns in an area.
* **Conditional riding seats** can be gated by Molang, so a seat can require an Alpha to be rideable.
* A **/givetm** command, and a config option to disable Pokemon spawning per world.
* The **Starter Selection menu** also got a full visual overhaul and looks a lot better than before.
* The **Disk Rack** stores music discs and doubles as an audio sequencer for note blocks.
* Pokemon cries now play when you click them in the summary screen.
### New crafting recipes and drops in 1.8
A handful of items also got new ways to obtain them in 1.8, on top of the TM system above.
* The Pokedex list also has a new filter dropdown at the bottom. In game it offers All, Owned, Seen, Unregistered, Rideable, and Undiscovered TM Move, so you can pull up exactly which Pokemon you can still ride or still need a TM for.
* Wild Pokemon now reliably spawn with at least one offensive move, if their level allows one.
* Hover mounts no longer lose block breaking speed, so they are actually good for digging now too.
* Golden Apples can now be crafted using Applin Apples instead of only found or bought.
* You can now craft a Pokedex using Prismarine Crystals or Amethyst Shards.
* Sharp Beak can now be crafted from bones and Flying type gems.
* Metal Alloy can now be crafted from iron and Thunder Stones.
* Pastured Pokemon now wander within 32 blocks by default, so they stay closer to home.

There is a big batch of bug fixes in this update too, including Full Heal now correctly curing status conditions in battle, traded Pokemon retaining their original friendship level when traded back to their original trainer, submarine handling and camera fixes, fossil and berry tree crash fixes, and general Pokedex "seen" tracking fixes for fished and surprised encounters.
* **Ability Capsules can now be brewed** from Medicinal Brew and Dragon Breath, rather than only found, and using one now returns an Empty Bottle.
* **Type Gems now consume properly.** Before 1.8 they were not always used up in battle. Now they are consumed correctly every time.
* **A fishing exploit is closed.** You used to be able to remove your bait or drop a baited Poke Rod to avoid using it up. Now the bobber just disappears if you try that, so bait is consumed as intended.
* **Gilded chests are harder to reach now.** They were more accessible than intended before 1.8, so this update tightens that up, even though every ruin's chest still guarantees a TM.
* **Rare Pokemon do not clump up as much.** They were far too likely to spawn multiple times in a single spawn cycle before 1.8; that has been fixed.
* **Pastured Pokemon stay put.** They used to occasionally despawn and run away; that is fixed now, on top of the smaller default wander radius.
* **Regional Foods changed.** Right clicking a Regional Food now eats it by default. Shift click it instead if you want to use it to heal your Pokemon.
* **Female Meowstic and Oinkologne can now appear.** Random gender selection for Pokemon with strict gender divides never picked female before 1.8; it can now.
* Sliggoo and Hisuian Sliggoo can no longer evolve in the Nether or the End, since it never actually rains there.
* **Rare forms can actually appear now.** Three Segment Dudunsparce and the three member Maushold family had their 1 in 100 chance of showing up fixed; it was not working before 1.8.
### Does Cobblemon 1.8 reset your advancements?
Yes, and this catches people out. 1.8 refactors advancements to simplify a cluttered list, and as a result **previously earned advancements reset**, except for the root starter-selection advancement. This is a one-time cost of the update itself, not something specific to Cobblemon Islands or any other server.
